The Missing Link (or 'Don't Just Stand There...')

Author: Dr Kem Thompson

There's one thing that separates successful people from unsuccessful people. Sure the mindset has got to be right for success to happen, but no amount of positive thinking, affirmations and meditations can help you succeed if you don't do this one thing.

You can write your goals and to-do lists from now to eternity, but if you don't do this thing, you might as well spend your life in bed, because then you'd get the same results - none. Nada.

Can you guess what this 'one thing', this 'missing link' between dreams and reality, is?

It's Appropriate Action.

I could have said just 'action', but then I realized that if you're doing the wrong thing, it won't get you the results you're after. That's why I've qualified the type of action in question with the word 'appropriate'.

What do I mean by 'Appropriate' in this context?

Here's another word that could be used in this context, to give you an idea: 'Congruent'.

Your actions must match or support the outcome you desire. They must be congruent with your desired results.

If you are committed to achieving your goals in life, you must be willing to do whatever it takes (within the limits of what is appropriate, necessary and legal). You must be willing to take appropriate action.

You must be willing to act as soon as you 'receive instructions' or ideas about what to do. These 'ideas' occur when you've laid the right mental foundation: defining your desire clearly, believing you are receiving it, gratefully expecting it. Once you've done things in this order, (remember, what you are 'receiving' includes, not just what you've asked for, but also the wherewithal and action steps to make it happen), notice the ideas that occur to you of things to do.

Then act on these ideas at once.

You may not always feel like doing the necessary action steps. If you desire to be healthy, for instance, you may not always feel like working out regularly. Well guess what, the successful people 'out there' don't always feel like doing these things either. They just don't let this stop them. They go ahead and do the right thing anyway, keeping their focus on their target.

This is so key I'm going to repeat it for emphasis:

If you wish to succeed in life, realize that there are things you must do which you won't feel like doing. Decide to do them anyway. Keep your focus on your target, your final destination. Don't get distracted by apparent difficulties on your way there.

Subject your feelings to your inner voice's leading. You know - the one that tells you what you must do in order to achieve a certain outcome.

Remind yourself of why you're doing this. Focus on your target.

Then do the one thing that sets all winners apart from losers: take Appropriate Action, and do it now.
